Becoming Light

I have been fascinated by the cosmos for many years. Now with improved telescopes we humans can get a peek into our heavens. The amazing gas explosions, dying stars and living stars are now seen through new eyes. All the colors and spectacular shapes are beyond our imagination. I had fun trying to portray the power and energy alive in our skies. Becoming Light, acrylic by Sylvia

A Trifle Of Tomatoes

During the summer we ripened our homegrown tomatoes  in our Trifle dish. They looked so perfectly charming, so happy  at home. For some crazy reason I thought I should paint them. But alias a clear glass dish  is both like painting something yet nothing. It was a struggle to make the tomatoes look like they are on the inside of the glass dish. Whew! Oil by Sylvia

I tamed the pears. Though, this may not be done yet (: I can always see a bit here or there I could redo, a mark possibly. I could make it better. We will see if further taming needs to be done? The pears have got to be eaten. Today!

Oh My Gosh Pears

Oh my gosh! Have I gone mad? No, not really. I bought so many pears. The students had to paint them in class. When I got home I thought, "I have an army of pears. I better paint them". I am showing you the 'raw wild' start. It's kind of physcidillic. Maybe even scary looking. Tune in again to see if I can tame the pears.....

Eucalyptus Flowers

As you can see I am back to painting flowers again. Actually this is a favorite painting of mine that I sold to a good friend this summer. I never thought I would sell it but I know it is well loved and is getting a good home.

I painted this Eucalyptus, Protea Flower grouping from life earlier this Spring.
The flower arrangement was rather tall and lanky. Not good for a painting composition. To get all the flowers on the canvas, so that they looked nice, I had to 'shrink' some of the stems to bring the beautifully odd flowers closer together. This allows the viewer (you) the real impact of the bouquet. Secret, as you can see, the lowest flower doesn't actually end up going into the vase. (: I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I love it.

This beautiful little orchid of mine was "screaming" to be painted. It reminds me of little white butterflies flitting about. It is so pretty I hope I did it justice.

This photo just surfaced of a painting I did year's ago. It is now hanging in a child's room. I hope they enjoy it. My paintings always feel like my children to me and I want to know where they go.... to a good loving home.

The Blue Vase

I enjoyed painting those petunias so much at the beach. I had to paint something light and airy again. Even though I had petunias I decided to try my Anna's hydrangea flowers which are open balls of small whitish flowers. They have a lovely greenish cast to them. A bit difficult to get that gorgeous color. I love flowers so much, I hope I don't bore you this summer.

Sunflowers

I had so much fun painting these Sunflowers. I was
feeling very 'beachy' down at my sisters small cottage in Florence Oregon. It was sunny and balmy. The afternoon light was beautiful on the sunflowers. I painted quickly to get the light perfectly hitting the flowers as evening drew near. I new I would have plenty to do on the painting in the next few days to refine or fix any errors, but the initial painting with the fresh colors and striking light was the most important thing to show the golden rays.

White Petunias

These few small white Petunias were almost lost in the garden. One more day and they would have been gone, shriveled by the sun. I had to rescue their presence and give them a place in my home. A place of permanence on my canvas. The cool blues tempered the heat of summer.
